Welcome to the 23rd International Conference of the European Federation for Medical Informatics in Oslo August 28th – 31st 2011.
The conference is hosted by the Norwegian Society of Medical Informatics and European Federation of Medical Informatics (EFMI).
The MIE2011 theme is “User Centred Networked Health Care”. The organisers aim to highlight real user experiences in increasingly socially and technologically networked health care. The chosen theme also emphasizes the Scandinavian tradition of participatory design; the crucial importance of the users´ contributions to systems development and sustainable use when health care professionals is part of (virtual) teams with colleagues and patients.
MIE2011 is the primary venue for the European health informatics community, and recent advances in the field will be presented as scientific papers, posters, demonstrations, panels, tutorials and workshops. MIE2011 will also host the Scandinavian Health Informatics (SHI) conference, a National e-health day and a training course by the Norwegian Medical Association, and there will be a pre-conference on Human Factors Engineering in Health Informatics.
Participants
The MIE conferences are major arenas for dissemination of research projects, presentation of innovations in and discussion of achievements in health informatics, biomedical informatics or eHealth. Delegates to MIE are typically recruited among
• academics in the fields of health informatics, computer science / informatics, and health and medical sciences.
• health providers working in community health, primary care, hospitals.
• opinion leaders, also influencing policy makers, in the health and health informatics field locally, nationally and internationally.
eHealth is an applied field. MIE2011 aspire to be an arena for interaction and networking for delegates at the conference, leading R&D projects, innovative SMB industry and exhibitions/demonstrations involving the innovative medical technology industry with outreach regionally and to Europe.

As new feature of MIE a corporate track is offered, Partnership in Innovation, which gives eHealth industry and EFMI intuitional members the opportunity to organize for and use half a day to present the background and implementation results of their products. It also offers the opportunity to discuss product features with domain experts in the audience. A village of the future with several “strands” will provide arenas for interactions between the scientific community, R&D projects and the innovative SMB industry. The MIE village profile and focus on research-based innovations, and what the R&D, in health informatics can lead to. The participant in the village should be able to show their research-based innovation along with presentation/poster/ of the research leading to the solution.
