For the first time, Oslo appears on Monocle’s renowned list of the world’s top 25 most liveable cities, checking in at no. 17. “This is Oslo's moment - the cultural scene is booming”, writes Monocle.
In their review of Oslo’s liveability, Monocle cites the capital city’s investment in design, architecture and public services that are recognized as benchmarks for the world. The iconic new opera house is highlighted, as well as waterfront renewal projects that are transforming the city.
Monocle’s list of the world’s top 25 most liveable cities receive much international attention when it is published each summer, and the strong first-time showing is a good indication that Oslo has what it takes to ensure high quality of life.
The index includes a variety of factors that make up a city's liveability, such as public transport, education, culture, and crime rate. This year they also included "chain-store pollution", ease of opening a business and major infrastructure improvements currently underway.
Zürich tops the list, followed by Copenhagen and Tokyo.
